I have many surgical scars on my head. Can I have a natural look by hair transplant?
I have a few surgical scars on my head. Scarred areas are totally bald. It is being harder each day for me to cover these areas with my hair. Can I have a covering result by hair transplant?
Hair growth rate on scarred area hair transplantation is lower than normal scalp. An application on the surgically scarred area will satisfy you, as long as the donor site is efficient enough.
Fue hair transplant method might be a better option as in FUT hair transplantation method there will be a linear scar.
Additionaly if your scars are larger scar excision could be another option to minimize the scar by tricopythic closure but there still will be scars (smaller in size) left after scar excision method.
FUE hair transplant and SMP on scar revisions
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) are commonly in use for reducing scar visibility occurred in Fut method. There are positive and negative sides of both applications.
FUE hair transplant for scars
FUE hair transplantation method is preferred for low amount graft processes because of its ability of one by one hair collection. As same, FUE method is also preferred commonly on scar revisions. Low amount of transplanted follicles by plastic surgeon is a beneficial way to reduce scar visibility and increase frequency. By this way, visibility of the scar between our hairs will be reduced.
SMP for scars
SMP (scalp Micro Pigmentation), a worldwide common treatment for covering scars that are occurred in hair transplantation, is a non-surgical method.
SMP is an illusion on scarred tissue by using special pigments and needles. Biggest different with tattoo and SMP is that it uses smaller needles, it fades by time, and it is hypoallergenic.
FUE vs. SMP
Making a decision between two applications will differ by person, necessity, and size of scar.
SMP
Non-surgical process
Easy and fast to apply
No need for healing process
Low costs
FUE Scar revisions
Surgical process
Requires partial or full haircut
Short recovery time
More expensive than SMP
