We all know that there are different hair types and colors in the world. You probably read many articles about the reasons of these differences. In this article, we are going to talk about the reasons determining our hair colors.
There are countless hair colors; blonde, dark, grey, brown, chestnut, white, red etc. but there are only two pigments determining these differences:
Eumelanin and Pheomelanin.
Eumelanin is a dark pigment and is responsible for creation of the colors from blond to dark colors. Eumelanin is also responsible of absorbing UV-A and UV-B and it protects our hair from sunlight.
Pheomelanin has the same structural molecules with Eumelanin, but it is more on the dull side. It is the pigment generating red hair color.
Natural hair can have different hair color caused by other reasons than these two pigments.
For example, sunlight makes our hair lighter color. As we age, these two pigments slow down and the number of white hairs increases.
